Framing consistency: the real secret of progress photos

To see real change between two photos, you need a frame that doesn't change. If the framing drifts every time, your brain can't separate body from perspective — and weeks of effort drown in a false 'nothing has changed' feeling.

Why it matters so much

Standing 20 cm closer to the camera can make your waist look wider or your shoulders narrower. A slight tilt completely redraws your midsection. Once comparability breaks, you either see fake progress and anchor your motivation to noise, or you miss real progress and quit.

The ghost overlay technique

The most reliable method is seeing a translucent 'ghost' of your previous photo on screen while shooting the new one: you match your shoulders to the ghost, put your feet on the same line, then press the shutter. That's exactly what PROGRESS does — the previous frame appears faintly on screen and you fit your body onto it; framing drift drops to zero.

Consistency without a ghost

Working without an app? Fix your constants: mark the phone's spot, put tape on the floor for your feet, use the same hour and the same outfit. Keeping that discipline up for weeks is hard — which is precisely why ghost overlay exists: it hands that burden to the camera.

Frequently asked questions

My old photos are from different angles — what now?

Pick the most repeatable one as your reference and start consistent from today. The old messy frames still give a rough idea; the reliable series starts now.

Is using zoom a problem?

Yes — zoom level is part of the framing. Always shoot at 1x from the same distance; solve cropping needs at comparison time, not capture time.

Portrait or landscape?

Portrait fits a full body from a shorter distance and matches how phones are held. Whichever you pick, use it forever.

Which body points should I line up with the ghost overlay?

Start with the shoulders, then match the hip line and the feet — get those three right and the rest of the frame falls into place on its own. Head angle and arm position matter less; miss the shoulder-hip-feet alignment and the ghost stops being useful.

How do I keep my old framing when I switch phones?

A new phone's camera can have a different focal length, so even shooting from the same distance may shift the frame slightly. Keep your floor markers and distance, take a few test shots against your last old photo, and adjust the distance by a few centimeters if needed; the ghost overlay makes this transition easier too, since you're matching against the ghost, not guessing.

Line it up with PROGRESS. A ghost of your previous photo appears on screen, so every new shot lines up perfectly. Your photos never leave your device.
